History of RSA law

 

History:

Before settlers came in, indigenous peoples had own law (customary);

 - 1652 Dutch settlers brought along with them Roman-Dutch

   law;

 - RD law was official law of Cape till English came in early 1800 with English law;

 - This law as it developed now common law; (murder, rape, robbery, theft are examples of common law crimes).

 - Common law consists of RD, ENG law, judicial decisions based on same reflecting changing political control.

SA law therefore consists of common , customary law & statute law.
